Walk With A Scholar
St. Aloysius College is collaborating with the Department of Collegiate Education with an aim to inspire motivated students (fast learners) to excel in curricular and co-curricular activities. The project is titled as‘Walk with a Scholar’ (WWS). It is a new initiative of the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala. In this programme30 students are enrolled in from the first year stream. A proper selection procedure is followed to select the students.This programme aims not only a holistic growth of the pupil of our college but also for providing support to them to pursue their higher education.
In this programme, a two tire mentoring system is followed. An internal mentor is provided for each student who will help the bright student to excel in his life and to discuss socio- economic concerns of their life. Internal mentorsupports a student in his/her developmental aspects such as cognitive, mental, emotional, behavioral, and social for bringing out a best citizen from them. Internal mentor of a mentee belongs to the same discipline of the mentee so that the mentee gets a proper care, academic and research support. An internal mentor meets a mentee at least 20 times in an academic year expected to spend at least 10 hours in an year with the mentee. Mentor maintains proper records of the attendance and activity reports for the continuous assessment of the mentoring programme.The external mentor of this programme is a skillful person and a social expert, who is not a faculty of the college, is frequently invited to the college to meet the mentees so that the mentees get a chance to meet, hear and interact with the external expert. More than 50 hours of external mentoring sessions have been carried out over the last 5 years. Mock interviews and training on group discussions are also carried out for the third year degree students by external experts. The collegeis successfully running the programme forthe last 5 years, and so far 360 students have completed the programme. яндекс
