Programmes

Programs conducted under the auspices of the college library every year comprise workshops, webinars and seminars, various competitions and different day celebrations and book exhibitions. Some of them are listed below:

State Level Workshop on KOHA 2020: The library conducted a State Level Workshop on KOHA: ILMS with the cooperation of the IQAC in the college on 28th and 29th February 2020. 31 participants from various colleges participated in the workshop. Fr. Tijomon P. Issac, the College Librarian coordinated the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by the Principal Dr. Jochan Joseph at 10 AM at Fr. Punnappadom hall on 28th February 2020. Librarian Fr. Tijomon P. Issac welcomed the gathering. Dr. Jubin Antony, IQAC Coordinator, felicitated the gathering. Ms. Alphamol Sebastian of II M.Sc. Physics extended a vote of thanks to the gathering. After the inaugural meeting training started in the computer lab at 11.15 am. The workshop came to a close by 5 PM on 29th February. Dr. Jochan Joseph distributed the certificates to the participants.

State Level Workshop on KOHA 2022: A State Level Workshop on KOHA:ILMS was conducted under the auspices of the IQAC and the College library on 23rd and 24th May 2022. 36 Participants joined the two-day library workshop. Fr. Tijomon P. Issac, (College Librarian, St. Aloysius College Edathua), Mr. Sonu Varghese (Manager, STACK LIBRARY SOLUTIONS), Ms. Sreelakshmi Ravi and Ms. Arya K. Babu were the resource persons of the workshop. Participants got ample knowledge about the installation and different modules of the software. College principal, Dr. Jochan Joseph inaugurated the workshop and the IQAC Coordinator Dr. Jubin Antony felicitated. The Workshop came to a close by the evening of 24th May with a final gathering and certificate distribution.

Launch of Audio Library (Dhwani): An audio library named ‘Dhwani’ was launched in view of collecting voices for the blind. An inaugural meeting was conducted on 30th July 2021 at 12 PM and the college Principal Dr. Jochan Joseph inaugurated the ‘Dhwani Audio Library’ and vice principal Sri. Jogy Joseph presided over the meeting. 55 members joined Dhwani including staff and students. Library installed DAISY software for screen reading purchase from Kerala Blind Federation, Thiruvananthapuram.

Reading Week Celebrations: The College library joined hands with Malayalam and English departments to celebrate Reading Week 2022 with some programs. National Reading Day is celebrated to commemorate the great personality P. N. Panicker, who worked hard to start libraries all over Kerala to inculcate reading habits among people in towns and villages. “Read and Grow” is the motto of Reading Day 2022. Library conducted the following programs during the week:

  • Seminar on ‘Reading day.’
  • Inauguration of the activities of the Readers’ Club.
  • Two-Day Book Exhibition.
  • Inauguration of the Voice Donors Forum.
  • Reading Competition.
  • Reading from Sacred Books and Inspirational Books through the public address system for a week.
  • Power Point Presentation Competition.
 
 

Best User Award

In order to motivate the students in using the library and its services, the library has instituted the ‘Best Library User Award’ from the academic year 2019-2020. Students, as well as staff, will be selected at the end of every academic year based on  on circulation and daily use, reading aptitude of the user, utilization of library resources, and discipline.

Reader’s Club and Reading Week inauguration 2022

The Readers’ Club activities for the academic year 2022-23 and National Reading Week 2022 was inaugurated by Mr.Jogy Joseph, Principal of the college on 20th August, 2022. In his inaugural address, he advised the staff and students to read more books and utilise library resources effectively. Dr.Jomole Jose , faculty from malayalam Department felicitated the inaugural session with a short introduction of the history of Sri.P N Panicker the father of library movement in Kerala.Fr.Tijomon P Issac , Librarian and coordinator of the Readers club welcomed and Mr.Suhail S, secretary of the club proposed vote of thanks.98 students from various departments attended the function. Inaugural Meeting was followed by Reading Competition. Altogether 28 participants attended the competition and Mr.Aby Abraham from 1st PG M.Com won the 1st Prize and Jitty Jogy from 3rd year B.Com Tax got the 2nd Prize and Samson xavier from 2nd PG won the 3rd Prize.

 

Book Exhibition 2022

College Library and the Department of Malayalam jointly organised a Book fair in connection with Reading day 2022 on 21st and 22nd June 2022. Reputed Book publishers like Mathrubhumi Books and Dc Books and some other publishers also partook in the Book fair. Students and staff from the college and from the nearby schools of Edathua visited the Book fair. Dr.Jochan Joseph the retired principal of the college inaugurated the Book fair on the first day and Sri Jogy Joseph the principal of the college presided over the inaugural meeting.College librarian Fr.Tijomon P Issac welcomed the gathering and Dr.Jomole Jose felicitated and Mr.Muhammad Farooq proposed vote of thanks.
