Folklore

Folklore is said to be the expressive form of culture shared by a particular group of people. It encompasses the traditions common to that culture, sub-culture or group. These include traditional customs, believes, stories (tales), sayings, dance or art forms followed by these group of people.

Kerala has a rich tradition of folklore. In this region Folklore is a spontaneous expression of human behaviour and thoughts. The Keralites have their own culture and lore which were mostly associated with agriculture during the different stages like sowing, seeding, weed clearing, harvest etc. which have their typical rituals.

Our College is situated in Kuttanadu which is well known for its vast paddy fields and geographical peculiarities. The folklore club of our college tries to collect “Pazhamchollu” (old sayings) and we were able to get a vast collection of these sayings. The club has also conducted a ‘Naadanpattu Aalapana Malsaram for public in connection with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the college.

As part of the activities, the Club propose to collect folklore stories in and around Kuttanadu.
