Films are one of the most appealing media for the common masses. Films and motion pictures play a vital role in influencing people by entertaining and inspiring them. The film industry is so massive that it ensures a wide range of career opportunities for people. Films often play a significant role in education as a learning tool as well. Several students in the college aspire for a career in the film industry and the film club strives to guide them to their goal.
The functioning of the club formally began on 12 th June 2017 with a meeting of the club members where Director Jayaraaj inaugurated the activities of the film club for the new academic year. Ms. Gem Cherian (Asst Professor, Dept of English) serves as the Co-ordinator and Mr.Aswin K Dev and Mr.Shivadas (Faculty members, PG Dept of English) serve as Advisors of the Club. Meetings are held on a regular basis often with screening of movies.
The club was able to spot many directors, photographers, artists and actors brimming with creativity and energy. As such, the club aims to give them proper training and send them to participate in various inter-collegiate short film, photography and fine arts competitions.
The members of the film club came up with a short film titled Innalekalil, the movie centering on the theme of farewell to a student’s alma mater and the nostalgic memories one faces as he steps out of the college. The film was directed by Mr. Arjun V (II B. Com Computer). The entire cast and crew of the film consisted of the students of the college. The film was sent to a few short film competitions and won words of appreciation from many. It is
inspiring to the current member students that a few former members of the club have got placed in the production units of certain movies.
In addition, the Club also provides a Theatre facility in the Audio Visual Room so as to screen world classic movies and documentaries for students. The Film Club aims to arrange film festivals, seminars and intercollegiate short film competitions in the coming years and to provide theoretical and technical training to the students who are interested in pursuing a career in film industry.
