Department of Economics

The Department of Economics is the first department in the college to offer an under graduate course in the year 1977.  The aim of the department is to promote scholarly inventiveness, research aptitude and overall development of its students. In its great endeavour of facilitating excellence in education, the graduate course offered by the department (CBCS BA Economics Model I) is envisaged with pre-eminence on combining the theory paper provided by the university with contemporary economic issues.

The first Principal of the college Dr. P.T. Joseph and former Principal Dr. P.C.Aniyankunju belong to the department of Economics. In the year 2021, a new generation post graduate course was sanctioned by the Government under the Aided Stream. At present the department has two permanent faculties and five guest faculties. The department is committed to ensure the quality education in economics with regular updating of the course contents according to the developments in economic thinking and policy.

Department of Economics builds bridges between our students and alumni, who together form a community of 8000 plus individuals. Our alumni live throughout the world and engage in a variety of careers, both academic and nonacademic, and the experiences they share support our graduate students as they conduct and complete their studies. Alumni of the department occupy high positions in the society such as Deepa Shankar IES, Adv. U. Prathiba MLA, and many more.
